Indian Home Remedies For Erectile Dysfunction

People with Erectile Dysfunction often face difficulty in maintaining or getting erections for sexual performance. Ayurvedic doctors make use of plants to treat this condition.

Ayurvedic medicines are a form of CAM (Complementary and Alternative medicine). Sometimes, people call it Ayurveda. It gets originated thousands of years ago in India. Ayurvedic practitioners use herbal medicines, diet, meditation, breathing exercises, exercise, and physical therapy, besides other methods.

Yoga practice is also involved in Ayurvedic medicine. Practitioners say that people who adopt regular yoga practice feel less stressed. They have improved reproductive health. People can noticeably improve their sexual life by reducing stress levels. In this way, yoga can help treat mild Erectile Dysfunction.

Researchers have not successfully confirmed the effects of yoga on Erectile Dysfunction in clinical studies yet.

Vajikarana therapy

Practitioners believe that Vajikarana therapy can revitalize the elements of the body and restore balance along with health. Ayurvedic medicine followers believe that such formulations can improve the reproductive system of men. It can enhance their sexual function by acting on the limbic system and hypothalamus of the brain.

According to some people, Vajikarana therapy can also lower anxiety about sexual desire and performance. It is known to increase the production of some reproductive hormones.

It uses hundreds of formulas, and each has several different ingredients. Some of them for the treatment of Erectile Dysfunction include:

  • Chlorophytum boriv
  • Vrihani gutika
  • Medadi yog
  • Vrishya gutika
  • Upatyakari shashtikadi gutika
  • Vajikaranam ghritam
  • Cinnamomum cassia

Researchers from Turkey conducted some laboratory testing of Cinnamomum cassia (cinnamon) essential oil. This experiment was conducted on different samples of erectile tissue from rats and humans.

This study showed that cinnamon essential oil and its primary component, such as cinnamaldehyde, caused relaxation of the erectile tissue of both rats and humans. If this effect happened in a real-life, it would probably result in a normal erection.

People should notice that it is essential never to swallow essential oils. Instead, a person can inhale the oil in aromatherapy or dilute it in a carrier oil and apply it to the skin.

Ayurveda practitioners make use of Ashwagandha, also called or Withania somnifera, to manage psychogenic Erectile Dysfunction. People face difficulty in erections because of:

  • Fear of failure
  • Sexual anxiety
  • Emotional stress
  • Concerns about sexual performance

Back in 2011, a team of researchers conducted a study on 86 males. They took either placebo or Ashwagandha root powder for 60 days continuously. Practitioners make their use to manage some other psychosomatic conditions.

They found no significant difference between the effectiveness of the placebo and that of the Ashwagandha. Three years later, the same team conducted research again; this study focuses on the effects of Ashwagandha on the other measures of Erectile Dysfunction. They noticed that Ashwagandha could not improve sexual performance any more than the placebo.

Other plants

Some studies have also disproved the action of various herbs used for Erectile Dysfunction. Indian researchers studied 30 plants that are classified as aphrodisiacs in modern literature.

The study aimed to check whether they inhibited the Rho-kinase. Rho-kinase 2 is a chemical in the human body that plays a significant role in an erection. Blockage of Rho-kinase 2 causes erectile tissues to relax and blood to engorge the penis for the creation of an erection.

The researchers later claim that the following plants can inhibit Rho-kinase 2:

  • Butea frondosa
  • Chlorophytum borivilianum
  • Butea superba
  • Mucuna pruriens
  • Syzygium aromaticum
